Did some basic AD diags and didn't see any errors there. I checked the event logs on the server and the workstation and did not see anything concerning.

The powershell option is much faster, although I had to reboot it two minutes later anyway for a couple driver updates.

I also read that removing the computer and adding it back to the domain fixes the issue. Be sure to run PowerShell as administrator or it won't work. No worries, I ran the following PowerShell commands and the problem went away and has not come back.I also tried rebooting but it did not fix the issue. I read somewhere that resetting the account should have kept this from happening but it did not! I may not have waited long enough but who knows.

Tried logging in as a non-admin standard user and received the following error "the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". I was able to login with my domain admin creds with no issues.

Plugged the newly cloned computer into the network.Right click on the computer and click reset. Before plugging into the network I reset the original computer account in AD.Restored the Clonezilla image to the new Lenovo desktop.Shutdown the original computer and unplugged from the network.Made a Clonezilla image backup of the original Dell computer. In the end, here's what I did and so far it works just fine.

I forgot that the original had already been upgraded from Windows 10 Pro to enterprise LTSB so I couldn't sysprep it. Moving forward we're going to use MDT to create "Gold" images for all of the PITA software but it's not ready and I need to get this user on their new hardware ASAP. I think I'm over analyzing this but again, this user is very particular. I'm going to test this entire process with another workstation but I want to make sure I understand any issues that may pop up later. I also have an image of the lenovo right out of the box if I need to revert back to square one. Before you freak out, I did the test on a completely different network that is in no way, shape or form connected to the domain network.

WINDOWS CREATE IMAGE OF HARD DRIVE I DONT WANT UPDATE

I downloaded the Lenvo driver update software it updated/installed maybe 4 drivers. Is it ok? Is it not? I just want to get this done as quickly as possible without spending hours installing software or causing issues down the road.īTW, I tested the original dell computer image on the new lenovo and it works just fine. Which leads to the same old argument about duplicate SIDS. I also read the article below which leads me to believe that I don't even need to sysprep the machine. This user will freak out if anything is significantly different when they login. Will the domain user profile still be the same? Will all the apps still work the same? I think the answer to both questions is yes, but I need to be sure. Everything says to sysprep then clone. To sysprep, I'll have to remove the computer from the domain, which is OK but I need to understand what will be different when I add the newly imaged computer back on the domain after cloning.

WINDOWS CREATE IMAGE OF HARD DRIVE I DONT WANT HOW TO

I've read article after article but nothing that states how to do what I want. We are working on a reference image moving forward but have not completed it. This user is very particular and has a bunch of non-standard software that is a PITA to reinstall. The current original computer is on a domain. I want to create an exact copy of their current computer (Dell WindLTSB/i7) on the new desktop (Lenovo M910q). I have a user that just got a new computer.
